Cartridge Filters for Above Ground & In-Ground Swimming Pools

Swimming Pool Filters

Cartridge filters are simple, modular filters that are inserted into a housing and can be used to remove particles, or sometime chemicals, from the water. Cartridge filters can be composed of a number for materials (woven, nonwoven, and membranes). For pools, they are typically made from spun polyester and placed inside a tank.

A clean and recently dry cartridge filter can trap particles as small as 10-12 microns in size. When the fabric is wet and under pressure from water flow, it stretches out and it only catches partices down to about 25 microns. When they become dirty, you may notice the pressure gauge rise to around 8 to 10 pounds. At this point, the filter needs to be cleaned in order to become more effective.

How to Clean Your Pool's Filter Cartridge

Cartridge filters used to have a bad reputation as a nuisance to maintain, but manufacturers have come up with newer filters with enough surface area (300-500 square feet) to need cleaning only once or twice each year. This makes the maintenance issue a plus with these filters.
