The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Pool Safely campaign aims to educate parents and pool owners\/operators about the many ways to provide a safe swimming experience for our children.\u00a0 One important way to ensure that the pool or spa you use is safe is to check that all\u00a0its drains have safe drain covers<\/a>.<\/p>\n Non-compliant drain covers can create a\u00a0dangerous suction that can entrap hair, jewelry, clothing, and body parts.\u00a0 Many injuries and deaths have occurred as a result of this powerful suction.\u00a0 That’s why the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act was passed.\u00a0 Now, public pools and spas are required by law to replace old, hazardous drain covers with\u00a0compliant, safe drain covers.\u00a0 Owners of residential pools and spas should do the same.<\/p>\n The following short\u00a0video created by the CPSC’s Pool Safely campaign offers more helpful\u00a0safety tips\u00a0related to\u00a0safety drain covers.<\/p>\n
